Coal imports by Taiwan has increased 21% M-o-M to 6.6 MnT in Jul’19, thereby attaining its highest monthly intake for the CY19.
Data provided by Taiwan’s custom indicates that coal imports by the country had rebounded after falling in Jun’19, wherein 5.45 MnT coal was received during the month. However, on the yearly basis coal volumes in Jul’19 had slipped 1% from 6.67 MnT in Jul’18.
Over the course of first 7 months of CY19 (Jan-Jul’19), Taiwan’s coal imports have totaled 39.63 MnT, down 2% Y-o-Y from 40.27 MnT noted in the year-ago period.
Major Coal Exporters:
Among the Taiwan’s major coal exporters, supplies from Australia and Indonesia had made ground for the loss in monthly coal receipt from Russia. Notably, Russian coal exports had extended its fall on the month, decreasing 7% M-o-M to 0.83 MnT in Jul’19.
Australian coal exports were marked 12% higher on the month at 3.09 MnT in Jul’19, but had fell 8% Y-o-Y from 3.36 MnT in Jul’18.
Indonesian coal exports surged 32% on the month to 1.96 MnT in Jul’19, recording its highest monthly total since May’17.
Besides, amid lower coal prices Taiwan had increased its sourcing from South Africa. Coal intake from South Africa had doubled m-o-m to 0.33 MnT during Jul’19. Apparently, no shipments were recorded in the year-ago month.
