Taiwan’s coal imports have witnessed a slight increase during the month of Sep’18. According to the data provided by Taiwan customs, the country has imported 6.03 MnT coal in Sep’18 against 5.91 MnT in Aug’18, thereby recording a growth of 2% M-o-M.
Imports in Sep’18 were also 3% higher on the year from 5.87 MnT marked in Sep’17.
Taiwan’s total coal import in the first 9-months of CY18 (Jan’18-Sep’18) has however, registered a fall of 3% Y-o-Y to 52.21 MnT, compared with 53.89 MnT in Jan’17-Sep’17 period.
Major Coal Exporters in Sep’18:
Australian coal exports have rebounded after falling in Aug’18 to mark 3% growth in Sep’18. The country supplied 3.06 MnT coal to Taiwan in Sep’18, which was also 6% higher on the year from 2.88 MnT in Sep’17.
Indonesian coal export to Taiwan was down 8% M-o-M to 1.77 MnT in Sep’18 compared with 1.93 MnT in Aug’18, but was 4% higher on the year from 1.7 MnT in Sep’17.
Russian coal exports had seen a hefty growth on the month, while supplying 0.71 MnT coal to Taiwan in Sep’18. On the other hand, Canadian coal export had slipped 69% M-o-M to 0.15 MnT in Sep’18.
Taiwan’s coal sourcing from South Africa has remained depressed in the recent months. Notably, South African coal export of 0.16 MnT in Sep’18 was recorded after a gap of 2-months.
South African coal export in Sep’18 was down 52% Y-o-Y from 0.33 MnT in Sep’17. Whilst total exports in the 9-month period has decreased 15% Y-o-Y to 2.04 MnT compared with 2.4 MnT in the same period last year.
