Taiwan: Coal imports likely to surge as power demand rises to all-time high

Power demand in Taiwan has hit a new all-time high of 39.27 GW for the third straight day amid an ongoing heatwave. The sharp rise in power demand is likely to lead to higher coal imports that have been on the higher side over the last few months. The Taiwanese government has announced to stop coal imports from Russia by Aug’22 and simulteneously raise imports from Australia, Indonesia and South Africa.
