Taiwan Billet Imports Jump Two-fold in October

Taiwan Billet imports increased by 95%, close to two-fold Y-o-Y and 45% M-o-M in Oct’18, SteelMint learned in recent released custom data.

Taiwan’s Billet imports recorded at 0.39 MnT in Oct’18, up by 95% as against 0.20 MnT in the same month of previous year. Also Billet imports was surge by 45% as against 0.27 MnT in Sep’18.

Further on a cumulative basis (Jan-Oct’18), Billet imports in Taiwan has increased by 12% and stood at around 2.97 MnT, which was about 2.61 MnT in the same period last year.

In the duration of Jan-Oct’18, Japan remains the largest Billet exporter to Taiwan with a contribution of 1.47 MnT (49.42%), followed by Russia 0.65 MnT (21.83%) & Vietnam 0.22 MnT (7.43%).

Prior to this, in CY17 (Jan-Dec) the country’s Billet imports was at around 3.43 MnT.

Trade Updates:

— Price assessment for USA origin HMS (80:20) in containers moved down at USD 275-280/MT, CFR Taiwan as against last weeks’ report of USD 280-283/MT, CFR.

— The latest price assessment of Billet exports stood at USD 385-390/MT FoB Iran & USD 410-420/MT FoB Ukraine.

— Taiwan remains the largest importer of total Billet exports from Russia during Jan-Oct’18 with a contribution of around 21.05% (2.77 MnT), followed by Mexico 16.89% (2.22 MnT), Turkey 12.25% (1.61 MnT) & Belgium 11.62% (1.53 MnT).

Taiwan Finish Long Steel Exports:

Taiwan has exported about 0.07 MnT finish long steel in the month of Oct’18 as against 0.10 MnT in Sep’18, down by 30% M-o-M. Also on yearly basis, finish long steel exports has fallen by 22% as compared with 0.09 MnT in Oct’17.

On a Cumulative basis, Taiwan total finish long exports during Jan-Oct’18 stood at 0.90 MnT, moved up by 15% which was about 0.78 in Jan-Oct’17.

Australia was the largest importer for Taiwan’s finish long steel with a contribution of 0.19 MnT (21.61%), followed by US 0.08 MnT (9.42%), South Korea 0.08 MnT (8.78%), Thailand 0.08 MnT (8.71%) & China 0.07 MnT (7.64%).
