Taiwan Billet Imports Increased, Mar’18

Taiwan’s billet import rise by 39% M-o-M in Mar’18, country’s custom data reported.

The nation has imported about 327,872 MT Billet in the month of Mar’18 against 235,525 MT in Feb’18, incline by 39.20% M-o-M

While, on Y-o-Y in Mar’18 imports plunged by 3.72% against 340,573 MT in Mar’17. Inline, considering calender year 2018 (Jan- Mar), the imports down by 8.32 to 802,180 MT against same preceding CY17 at 875,570 MT.

Japan remained in the top list of billet imports in Taiwan with an contribution of about 424,307 MT (52.89%); followed by Russia 202,130 MT (25.20%), United Arab Emirates 53,824 MT (6.71%) & Iran 51,503 MT (6.42%).

As per the SteelMint’s assessment in March 2018, the crude steel production of Taiwan was around 2.00 MnT and in CY18 (Jan-Mar) it was approximately 5.77 MnT. Prior to this it was at 1.90 MnT in Mar’17 & 5.49 MnT in CY17 (Jan-Mar).

— Taiwan’s prices for importing containerized HMS-grade ferrous scrap rise by around USD 3/MT on weekly basis, price assessment for USA based HMS (80:20) are at USD 345/MT CNF Taiwan.

Taiwan’s ferrous scrap surged 19 months high in Mar’18. As per recent customs data, Taiwan imported 308,522 MT ferrous scrap in Mar’18 as against 195,155 MT recorded in Feb’18.

— Last assessment of global billet export offer are hovering at USD 540-550/MT FoB China, USD 515-525/MT FoB Ukraine & USD 520-530/MT FOB India.
