As per recent data released by Taiwan customs it is observed that the nation has imported about 150,000 MT Billet in June 2017.
The imports have registered a downfall of 60% M-o-M in Jun’17 against 380,000 MT in May’17. During Jun’17, Japan has exported approximately more than 80% billet (130,000 MT).
While, on Y-o-Y in June 2017 imports registered a downfall of 21.05% against 0.19 MnT in June 2016.
Coming to total imports in H1 CY17 (Jan-Jun17), the nation has imported about 1.67 MnT Billet; up by 2.5% as compared to 1.63 MnT in the same preceding last year.
Prior to this, in CY16 (Jan-Dec) the country’s billet import was around 3.28 MnT & in CY15 at 2.90 MnT.
Country wise:
In CY17 (Jan-Jun) – Japan, Russia, United Arab Emirates was the major billet exporter to Taiwan which exported about 750,000 MT (44.93%), 480,000 MT (28.59%) & 210,000 MT (12.68%), respectively.
Japan continues to remain the largest billet supplier to Taiwan –
Japan remained in the top list of Billet export to Taiwan. In the duration of H1 CY17 (Jan-Jul’17), Japan has exported around 1.96 MnT billet which contribute about 39% of total billet imports in Taiwan.

1. The export offers of 150*150 IS 2830 grade billet are currently at USD 495/MT FoB India & 150*150 Q235 are at USD 525/MT FoB China.
2. Taiwan’s prices for imports of containerized HMS-grade ferrous scrap have risen by USD 10/MT W-o-W, the price assessment for USA based HMS 1&2 (80:20) are at USD 295-300/MT CFR Taiwan.
