Sweden: Iron Ore Exports up 29% in May’18

Sweden is the third-largest iron ore exporter in Europe after Russia and Ukraine. It has exported 2.16 MnT iron ore in May’18. Country’s iron ore exports have witnessed 29% increase on monthly basis as against exports of 1.68 MnT in Apr’18.

However, on yearly basis Sweden witnessed exports down 8% Y-o-Y in May’18, as against 2.35 MnT in May’17.

For Jan-May’18, Sweden iron ore exports marked at 9.72 MnT, in line with same duration last year (Jan-May’17).

In May’18, an agglomerated (pellets/concentrate) iron ore exports have recorded increase of 23% M-o-M to 1.74 MnT against 1.41 MnT in Apr’18. However, on yearly basis exports have depicted fall of 8% against May’17 exports at 1.89 MnT.

The non-agglomerated (fines/lump) iron ore exports increased by 56% M-o-M to 0.42 MnT in May’18, against 0.27 MnT in Apr’18. However, on yearly basis exports witnessed fall of 9% as against 0.46 MnT in May’17.

Sweden Iron ore Export to Germany Up 15% M-o-M

Germany remained the largest importer of iron ore from Sweden at 0.61 MnT, contributing 28% share of total Sweden’s export.  The imports witnessed increase of 15% M-o-M as against being 0.53 MnT in Apr’18. This is owing to expected increase in crude steel output by Germany for the month  to about 3.9 MnT in May’18 against 3.7 MnT in Apr’18.

United Kingdom stood the second largest iron ore importer at 0.23 MnT (up by more than thrice M-o-M)

UAE and Saudi Arabia recorded imports at 0.2 MnT and 0.18 MnT respectively against being nil a months before.
