Sweden Iron Ore Export Drops 22% in June’18

Sweden is the third-largest iron ore exporter in Europe after Russia and Ukraine. Sweden’s exports for the month of June’18 witnessed at 1.69 MnT. The exports recorded drop of 22% on monthly basis as against 2.16 MnT in May’18.

Sweden iron ore exports down by 6% in Q2 CY’18  to 5.53MnT as against 5.88 MnT in Q1 CY’18.

For H1 CY’18, Sweden iron ore exports marked at 11.4 MnT, in line with same duration last year at 11.16 MnT (Jan-June’17). Germany stood the largest importer at 3.57 MnT, up 32% Y-o-Y.

However, on yearly basis Sweden witnessed exports up by 12% Y-o-Y in June’18, as against 1.51 MnT in June’17.

In June’18, an agglomerated (pellets/concentrate) iron ore exports have recorded decrease of 18% M-o-M to 1.43 MnT against 1.74 MnT in May’18. However, on yearly basis exports have depicted rise of 11% against June’17 exports at 1.29 MnT.

The non-agglomerated (fines/lump) iron ore exports decreased by 38% M-o-M to 0.26 MnT in June’18, against 0.42 MnT in May’18. However, on yearly basis exports are stood up by 18% as against 0.22 MnT in June’17.

Sweden Export to Germany down marginally on monthly basis

Germany remained the largest importer of iron ore from Sweden at 0.59 MnT, contributing 35% share of total Sweden’s export for the month. The imports witnessed slight decline on monthly basis as against being 0.61 MnT in May’18.

Saudi Arabia stood the second largest iron ore importer at 0.53 MnT (up by almost thrice M-o-M), followed by Netherland at 0.17 MnT(down 6% on monthly basis).
