Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court is slated to hear the petitions filed by some environmentalists and civil society organizations to give an extension to the Shah Commission today.
On the other hand the high profile Commission's enquiry report on illegal mining in several mineral bearing states like Odisha, Goa, Karnataka and Chhattisgarh may go to the cold storage as some experts believe; it is highly unlikely that the union government would make the sensitive report public before the impending general elections in 2014.
But as per reports the union mines ministry is opposing any decisions for an extension to the commission. The tenure of the commission has expired on 16th of this month after getting two extensions since the formation on 2010.
