Supreme Court allows B category iron ore mines in Karnataka to resume mining

The final verdict of Supreme Court regarding resuming of iron ore mining operations by B grade mines has come out in favor of miners.

A total of 63 mines in A and B category have been allowed to re-start mining, which would take some time to begin with mining operations.

B grade mines can start mining operations subject to R&R plan. Industry experts feel that it may take 2-4 months to resume operations provided things move smoothly.

C category mines in the state have not been allowed to resume mining and all leases have been cancelled, according to supreme court order.

Meanwhile SC also ordered that all category 'C' mines will be auctioned based on its annual production and grade of iron ore available.

Iron ore production in Karnataka is expected to touch 27 million tons in FY 2013-14 if mines start in about two to three months time, as supply would improve in the months to come.
