Steel Ministry may Postpone BIS on Wire Rod under New Quality Control Order

As per notification dated 15 Dec’15, Steel Ministry had notified ISI mark mandatory for 15 more steel products. The ministry is expected to postpone BIS on wire rod under new quality control order w.e.f 18 Mar’16.

In order to enhance quality control, the steel ministry in earlier circular notified ISI marking mandatory for 15 more steel products, including mild steel wire rods, cold reduced low carbon and hot rolled carbon sheets and strips. Notable, the order is likely to effective from 18 Mar’16.

Ministry of Steel in a conversation to SteelMint in condition to anonymity said, “BIS on few products like steel wire for reinforcement and wire for engineering goods will be extended further under new quality control order.” 

BIS official said, “Any manufacture or store for sale, sale or distribution of steel & steel products listed under the quality control order, which do not conform to the specified standards and do not bear BIS mark, is prohibited.”

With this notification, there will now totaled 35 steel and steel products under compulsory BIS certification.

All domestic and global steel manufacturers are being covered under the quality control order. In addition, they will have to submit an application to the BIS for obtaining the license and to maintain it thereafter for use of the BIS mark.
