Commenting on the ongoing coal crunch in the domestic market, the minister said that lesser demand of coal had resulted in stock growing at the CIL’s pithead mines; thereby the company had limited its coal production in the beginning of 2017-18. However, as the demand for coal has increased, CIL is making best efforts to augment coal production.

CIL’s coal production target was 433.48 MnT during Apr’17-Nov’17, of which the company has produced 396.53 MnT. There was a positive growth of 2% during the period, compared with the production of 388.68 MnT recorded in Apr’16-Nov’16.
