Spot coking coal market remains stable with absence of Chinese buyers

Market for coking coal in Asia-Pacific has been stable with offers and bids remaining unchanged.

Currently, the market for Premium Low-vol HCC is at $142.50/MT (FOB Australia) unchanged from previous price and that of Mid-vol is at $127.50/MT FOB.

There is a little possibility that market may improve in the next week as Chinese buyers have now returned from a week-long holiday, said market experts.

In India (Premium HCC – $157 CFR India), market participants observed potential buying interest in the market. “Demand is looking up a little in the market now”, said a source.

On the other hand, an Asian trader said that the demand might not witness much of an upside considering how market has been over the last couple of months. It may remain stable in the coming week as desire for buying Australian hard coking coal is likely to remain unchanged for Chinese mills, he added.
