Sponge producers urge Odisha govt to ensure smooth iron ore supply from OMC

The Odisha Sponge Iron Manufacturers’ Association has written to the Odisha government to intervene in order to protect the secondary steel units in the state by directing state-owned OMC to increase production from its Guali, Jilling and Kurmitar iron ore mines for state-based units. The demand is for OMC to raise the production level permitted under existing ECs from these mines and reserve the ore for Odisha-based small and medium units. OMC hasn’t been able to raise production, the Association alleges after the mines were allotted to it due to months of non-production after auctions.
