An expected rise in power demand in the summer months, resulting in an uptick in coal-fired power generation, has triggered increased buying of high-CV (calorific value) thermal coal by South Korea, market participants informed CoalMint. S.Korea’s average daily peak power demand is currently around 62-63 GW – up from 58.5 GW a year earlier and above the 2016-19 range reflecting rise in average temperatures and recovery in economic activities.
