South Korea, the third-largest iron ore importer after China and Japan, have imported 5.29 MnT iron ore in May’17, according to the trade data released by South Korean Customs.
Iron ore imports have witnessed a decrease of 9% M-o-M as it was 5.83 MnT in Apr’17. On the other hand the country’s iron ore imports grew significantly by 145% Y-o-Y as it was 2.16 MnT in May’16.
During the first 5 months of 2017, the country imported 28.33 MnT iron ore, down by 3% Y-o-Y as it was 29.99 MnT in the same consecutive period last year.
The non-agglomerated iron ore (lumps and fines) import in May’17 was registered at 5.24 MnT, down 1.5% M-o-M and up 159% Y-o-Y compared with the May’16, The agglomerated ore (pellets and concentrates) import was registered at 0.05 MnT, down 90% M-o-M and down 64% Y-o-Y compared with the month of May’16.
