South Korea: SeAH Steel signs contract to supply STS pipes to Samsung

South Korean steel major SeAH Steel has recently signed a contract to supply stainless steel (STS) pipes worth KRW 172 billion to Samsung C&T by H2CY23 for its Qatar liquified natural gas (LNG) Northern Gas Field Project. This is a large-scale project worth KRW 1.8 trillion which includes three LNG storage tanks of 187,000 m3, three port berthing facilities, and transportation piping.

Also, SeAH Steel aims to strengthen its position in stainless steel (STS) pipe market with rising demand of LNG projects during global energy transition period.

This time, steel major has value-added its STS pipe by introducing features like low temperature impact toughness and high pressure durability, to make pipes unbreakable by impact even in cryogenic conditions, as LNG has a liquefaction point of -162 degrees at 1 atm.

It is the only company which manufacturers wide range of STS welded pipes with diameters ranging from 0.5 inches to 197 inches and thicknesses from 1mm to 128mm, and is building a reference for large-scale global LNG project delivery based on its unrivaled competitiveness.

“We have been recognised for our manufacturing technology as a major supplier of welded stainless steel pipes through successive large-scale orders in the global LNG project market.” If the new investment is completed within this year, we expect to further solidify our supply competitiveness in the rapidly growing LNG project market”, said the company official in a statement.
