South Korea: KEPCO eyes more coal-fired power generation this winter

South Korea’s state utility, Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO) last week announced the generation of some 12.8 terawatt hours (TWh) of power with coal this year instead of LNG. Elevated LNG prices and tight supply from Russia have compelled power utilities to switch back to the dirty fuel. The move is seen as lowering expensive regasified LNG by about 8%.
