South Korean mills exported 125,714 tonnes (t) of hot-dip galvanised steel sheets in Feb’22, down 6% as against 134,185 t in Feb’21 and a decrease of 11% compared with 140,766 t in Jan’22.
Export volumes to Japan plunged 37% to 19,266 t on the year, followed by Southeast Asia and Middle East at 1,335 t and 1,251 t respectively.
European mills lowered their imports by 9% y-o-y to 33,354 t from South Korea in Feb. Imports by North America and Latin America fell by 31% and 9% respectively in Feb compared with the same month of last year.
Total exports in the first two months of the current calendar year witnessed a marginal decline of 1% y-o-y to 266,480 t.
GI imports fall 65% y-o-y
Hot-dipped galvanised steel sheet imports by South Korean mills stood at 27,442 t in Feb, down 65% from 77,526 t in Feb’21. Also, on a monthy basis, imports dropped 24% as against 36,028 t.
Import volumes from China and Japan stood at 25,931 t and 1,323 t, down 64% and 77%, y-o-y, respectively, in Feb.
In Jan-Feb, HDGI imports stood at 63,470 t, down more than 52% compared to last year.
