South Korea: Flat Steel Imports Decline 2% Y-o-Y in May’17

According to the latest customs data, South Korea flat steel imports which includes 7208 (HR coils /Plates),7209 (CR coils), 7225 (Electrical sheets),7210/7212(GP/GC) have fallen marginally by 2%,Y-o-Y basis in May’17 and stood at 0.89 MnT as compared to 0.91 MnT in May’16

On monthly basis, South Korean flat steel imports took the plunge of 4.3% in May’17 against Apr’17. In Apr’17 the same stood at 0.93 MnT.

In first five months of 2017 country’s flat steel imports rose by 2.1% to 4.72 MnT against 4.62 MnT in similar time-frame of previous year.

If grade-wise analysis is made, then 7208 exports recorded at 0.45 MnT of flat steel in May’17,down by 13% against 0.52 MnT in Apr’17.Similarly CRC is at 0.02 MnT,Galvanised steel at 0.19 MnT and electrical sheets at 0.19 MnT in May’17.

China remained the major flat steel exporter to South Korea and accounts for 67% of share in May’17 .Other major countries include Japan with 29% share in South Korea flat steel imports followed by Taiwan with share of 2.65%.
