South Korea: Ferrous scrap imports fall in mid-Mar’25, Hyundai Steel leads among importers

SteelDaily: The total volume of imported ferrous scrap at South Korea’s major ports dropped to 50,713 tonnes (t) in mid-March compared to 54,554 t received in the beginning of the month.

In mid-March, Hyundai Steel remained the leading importer, accounting for 36.7% of the total ferrous scrap imports. Notably, special steel companies collectively sourced 44.8% of the imports, marking a slight decline of approximately 1% compared to early March.

Company-wise scrap arrivals

Hyundai Steel – 18,613 t, with 8,513 t at Incheon and 11,000 t at Dangjin (the highest volume).

SeAH Besteel – 18,100 t at Gunsan Port.

Daehan Steel/Taewoong Steel5,000 t at Jinhae Port.

POSCO – 9,000 t at Gwangyang Port.
