South Korea: Electro-galvanised steel sheet sales rise 2.4% in Jan-Mar’22

South Korea’s electro-galvanised steel sheet (EGI) sales increased by 2.4% to 417,700 tonnes (t) in January-March 2022 compared to the same period last year. Out of these, domestic sales were recorded at 232,051 t while overseas sales were at 185,649 t, according to the Korea Steel Association.

Sales volume fell by 1.9% m-o-m to 134,754 t in March 2022.

Meanwhile, overseas sales were sluggish compared to domestic sales in March. Domestic sales of EGI were 79,686 t, up 4.6% compared to February, while overseas sales fell by 10.1% to 55,068 t in March.

Country-wise EGI sales

South Korea’s EGI sales to Southeast Asia (8,447 t), Southwest Asia (1,858 t), and Europe (6,982 t) decreased in March.

On the other hand, sales to Japan (3,651 t), Middle East (2,902 t), Latin America (19,210 t) and South America (1,773 t) increased in the month under review.

EGI output

The production of electro-galvanised steel sheets (EGI) by domestic manufacturers in March stood at 144,081 t, up 6.1% from February.

The total production of EGI by domestic manufacturers in January-March increased by 2% to 423,229 t.
