South Korea: Colour steel sheet production, sales increase m-o-m in March

South Korea’s colour steel sheet production rose 14% to 213,592 tonnes (t) in March 2022, compared to 187,678 t in February. Similarly, production increased by 9% as against 196,312 t in the same period last year.

In January-March 2022, production stood at 601,553 t as against 563,298 t in the same period last year.

Sales up 11%, m-o-m, in March
Colour steel sheet sales increased by 11% to 202,222 t in March compared to 181,524 t a month ago. Sales also edged up by 2% as against 198,210 t on a y-o-y basis. Total sales stood at 587,673 t in January-March 2022, up 8% y-o-y.

Out of total sales, exports accounted for 97,519 t in March, up 13% as against 86,190 t a month ago. However, exports dropped 3% as against 100,780 t in March, 2021.

Domestic sales rose by 10% to 104,703 t in March, 2022 compared to 95,334 t in the previous month. Sales went up by 7% from 97,430 t in March, 2021.

Region-wise sales y-o-y
In March, colour steel sheet sales to Australia surged 119% to 4,254 t. Sales to Mexico were up 24% to 16,779 t, while sales to Europe rose 7% to 35,572 t. Bangladesh received 3,531 t, 3% higher compared to March, 2021.

The regions where sales declined y-o-y were Russia at 2,885 t (down 49%), North America at 12,340 t (down 36%), Southeast Asia at 14,563 t (down 22%) and Southwest Asia at 14,851 t (down 11%).
