South Korean Coal Imports Down Marginally in Aug’16

South Korea’s Aug’16 coal Imports slump marginally by 0.6% to 11.21 MnT. Besides yearly imports rise by 1% during the month.

South Korea, world’s 4th largest coal importer, received around 11.21 MnT coal in Aug’16, according to the trade statistics released by South Korean Customs.

Country’s coal imports have seen a downfall of 0.6% on monthly basis as it was 11.28 MnT in Jul’16. On the contrary, Yearly coal import has increased slightly by 1% when compared with Aug’15.

Out of the total imports, the country receives more than 85% bituminous coal from the different origins and rest quantity comprises Anthracite, Coke and Pet coke every month.

South Korea coal import in 2016

In the 1st eight month of the year, South Korea has imported about 87.36 MnT coal with a downfall of 5%, which was 92.04 MnT in the same consecutive period last year.

south-korea-monthly-coal-importsAustralia, the largest exporter of coal to South Korea, supplied more than 40% coal every month. The county exported about 4.1 MnT to South Korea in Aug’16, down by 8.4% M-o-M and fallen by 9.9% Y-o-Y.

Indonesia, the second-largest coal exporter to South Korea, exported 3.47 MnT coal in Aug’16 with a significant growth of 29.3% M-o-M. While yearly exports has also noted a growth by 29.5% which was 0.63 MnT in Aug’15.

Russia, the third largest coal exporter to South Korea, exported around 2.09 MnT coal in Aug’16, down by 19.2% M-o-M and 0.9% Y-o-Y.
