South Asia: Imported scrap prices inch up as demand from Turkiye recovers

South Asia’s imported scrap prices have inched up d-o-d after Turkiye’s scrap buyers turned active amid improved finished steel demand. Scrap demand in Pakistan and Bangladesh has also seen a recovery due to the shortage of local scrap and higher domestic prices compared to imported material.

Today’s deal

  • Around 1,000 t of HMS (80:20) scrap of Europe-origin was traded at $375/t CFR Nhava Sheva.

SteelMint’s price assessment

  • Europe-origin shredded scrap offers into India were at $415/t CFR Nhava Sheva, unchanged d-o-d.
  • UK-origin shredded prices stood at $441/t CFR Chittagong, up by $3/t from yesterday.
  • UK-origin shredded scrap prices were at $410-415/t CFR Qasim, a marginal rise of $1/t d-o-d.
