South America: Peru Cuajone copper mine protest ends after 52 days

A group of indigenous communities has lifted the protest against Southern Copper Corp’s Cuajone mine that had forced a suspension of production for more than 50 days in Peru, the world’s second-largest producer of copper, SteelMint learnt from sources. The 52-day mine stoppage caused a loss of more than $260 million in exports as well as $400 million in lost tax revenue.
