South African Pig Iron Exports Increase

South Africa pig iron exports incline by around 30,000 MT M-o-M in March’18, according to the customs.

The nation has exported about 43,375 MT pig iron during Mar’18 against 13,722 MT in Feb’18. Italy (11,005 MT) remains the largest importer in Mar’18, inline Netherlands second topped the list with 9,000 MT of imports from the nation. Inline on yearly basis exports surge by 18% against 36,785 MT in Mar’17.

In the Fiscal year of 2018, the total exports has been registered at 519,903 MT, surge by 54.08% against 337,419 MT in the period of FY17.

Country-wise South African Pig iron exports

— USA, the largest importer of South African Pig iron has imported 141,374 MT Pig iron in FY18 (Apr-Mar) against 90,336 MT in FY17. In Mar’17, the country exported 12,800 MT Pig iron to USA while no major exports done in Mar’18.

— Italy, the second largest Pig iron exporter to South Africa has exported 58,021 MT in FY18 (Apr-Mar) against 43,730 MT in FY17 (Apr-Mar).

— Netherlands, the third largest importer of South African Pig iron has imported 62,014 MT Pig iron in FY18 against 57,215 MT in FY17.

Market Updates

1. In Mar’18, total ferrous scrap exports from South Africa stood at 45,386 MT. Pakistan imported around 19,574 MT, and 18,069 MT imports were recorded in India.

2. The global export offers of steel grade Pig Iron are assessed at USD 390-395/MT FoB Brazil & USD 360-365/MT FoB India.

3. South African coal export has incline 15.24% M-o-M to 7.18 MnT in Mar’18 against 6.23 MnT in Feb’18. South African RB2 (5500 NAR) coal offers are assessed at USD 85/MT on FoB basis & USD 100/MT CNF India.

4. Presently, export offers of iron ore lumps, Fe 64%, South Africa are at USD 84/MT CNF India.
