South African iron ore exports to India recorded at 0.95 MnT, decline of 80% M-o-M
South Africa – world’s 3rd largest iron ore exporter after Australia and Brazil recorded a decline of 21% in June’18. South Africa has exported 4.88 MnT in June’18, as against 6.16 MnT in May’18. However, the June’18 exports on yearly basis, witnessed in line with June’17 exports. According to the trade data released by South African Customs.
The decline is owing to derailments occurred in iron ore exports channel from Kumba iron ore mines, which bears a production capacity of around 42 MnT and contributes exports of about 9.5 MnT pa.
For the quarter ending June’18, South African exports recorded at 16.79 MnT, up 8% as against 15.56 MnT Q1CY’18.
In H1 CY’18 Country has witnessed a marginal increase of iron ore export at 32.35 MnT as compared to 31.72 MnT in H1 CY’17.
An agglomerated (pellets/concentrate) iron ore exports on monthly basis, recorded a decline of 28% to 2.84 MnT in June’18 as against 3.93 MnT in May’18. However, on yearly basis exports increased by 6% in Jun’18 against 2.68MnT in Jun’17.
The non-agglomerated (fines/lump) iron ore exports M-o-M exports were down by 9% in June’18 to 2.04 MnT as against May’18 exports at 2.23 MnT. On yearly basis exports decreased by 5% in Jun’18 against 2.15MnT in Jun’17.
Indian iron ore imports from South Africa decreased 80% M-o-M in Jun’18
China continues to remain the largest iron ore importer from South Africa for the month of June’18, and imported 2.87 MnT, contributing 59% share of total South African iron ore export in June’18 (down 23% M-o-M), followed by Netherland at 0.36 MnT (up twice on monthly basis).
Indian iron ore imports from South Africa dropped 80% M-o-M to 0.11 MnT in June’18, as against 0.54 MnT in May’18.On quarterly basis iron ore imports recorded at 0.95 MnT , down 30% as compared to 1.36 MnT in last quarter.
