South African Coal Imports increase in India

Imports of Non-coking Coal  have improved significantly by 3.9% in week 23 (1-7 Jun ’14). Sharp improvement in Coal imports from South Africa has been witnessed in view of bottomed prices. 

SteelMint assessed that India has imported around 3.4 MnT at the end of week 23, which has improved from 3.2 MnT of the preceding week. Out of the total Coal imports of 4.4 MnT, around 77% comprises of Non-coking Coal arriving from different destination.

South Africa, one of the major suppliers of Non-coking Coal has supplied around 0.61 MnT and registered a growth of 57% than last week. Imports from South Africa at this juncture have improved on the back of low prices offered.

Out of the total weekly imports Indonesia has supplied nearly 2.2 MnT of Non-coking Coal to the country, while 0.05 MnT Non-coking arrived at Bhavnagar port from UAE.

Mundra port, on the West Coast of India, has imported maximum quantity i.e. around 0.72 MnT of Coal. Quantity of Coal imported, belongs to Adani Power and Coastal Gujarat Power, as per the consideration of 33 major & minor Indian ports.

Krishnapatnam stands at second  position in terms of quantity; imported around 0.32 MnT of Non-coking.

Adani Power, Coastal Gujarat Power & Adani Enterprises are the major importers at the week ended on 14 Jun, 2014. Adani Power has imported around 0.56 MnT Coal. Coastal Gujarat Power & Adani Enterprises have imported around 0.32 MnT & 0.27 MnT of Coal respectively.
