Transnet Freight Rail has reopened rail line 2 of RBCT following a 31-wagon train derailment at Dassiehoogte station in the Eastern Cape region of South Africa on 3 Jul’21. However, line 1 continues to remain closed, affecting coal supplies to RBCT port, as per reports. Coal stocks at Richards Bay were at 3.4 mn t last week, down 6% from the previous week. However, ahead of the rail network’s scheduled annual maintenance, the port would need to store 5 mn t of coal.
