Non Coking coal Exports through South Africa’s main coal export terminal RBCT has remained almost unchanged in Aug’17 from the previous month, according to the vessel line-up data compiled by CoalMint research.
RBCT witnessed minor drop of 0.10 MnT in monthly exports, as total monthly export was recorded 6.51 MnT in Aug’17 against 6.61 MnT in Jul’17. So far, RBCT has exported 49.64 MnT Non-coking coal in CY17 (till Aug’17).
RBCT’s coal export had fell 3.7% Y-o-Y to 72.6 MnT in CY16 and is planning to raise exports to 77 MnT in CY17.
Major Coal Receivers:
India remained the major coal receiver from RBCT followed by Pakistan, Netherlands, Gibraltar, Spain and Taiwan.
India had received 2.70 MnT of Non-Coking coal shipments in Aug’17, with an increase of 16% M-o-M compared with 2.33 MnT in Jul’17.
Pakistan also recorded an increase of 9% in monthly imports. The country acquired 0.8 MnT coal from RBCT in Aug’17 compared with 0.73 MnT in Jul’17.

Transnet Sets New Record for Coal Transportation:
Transnet Freight Rail (TFR), the railway operator which supplies coal from South African mines to RBCT has set new record for coal transportation for the month.
TFR has transported 7.46 MnT coal to RBCT in Aug’17 against the previous month high of 6.9 MnT in Jul’17. Company’s Officials claim that it is the first time that coal transportation has crossed the 7 MnT mark.
TFR had enforced shutdown for one week during Jul’17 to carry out its maintenance activities, which has helped them to reduce the coal delivery time from the mine to RBCT, thereby improving transportation efficiency.
