South African RB1 (6000 kcal/kg NAR) grade coal prices for Apr’22 eased slightly by $7/t d-o-d to $271/t FOB as on 7 April, while for May prices have increased to $273/t FOB. Prices fell because the European Union has announced plans to implement sanctions on energy imports from Russia from mid-Aug, allowing Russian companies to export coal to the EU under existing contracts. Earlier, the sanction was planned for July.
