South Africa pig iron exports surge by around 70,000 MT in the first seven months against the same period in 2017, according to the customs.
The nation has exported about 318,762 MT pig iron during Jan-Jul’18 against 248,706 MT in Jan-Jul’17, surge by 28.16% Y-o-Y.
While in the month of Jul’18, South Africa pig iron exports are reported at 62,363 MT against 22,903 MT in Jul’17, surge by 172% on yearly basis.However on monthly premises, billet exports decline by 19.03% in Jul’18 against 77,017 MnT in Jun’18.
In the month of July 2018, the crude steel production of South Africa was around 535,000 MT and in CY18 (Jan-Jul) it was approximately 3,731,900 MT. Meanwhile, in CY17 the figure of crude steel production stood at 6,301,800 MT.
Country-wise South African Pig iron exports
— USA, the largest importer of South African Pig iron has imported 98,784 MT Pig iron in 2018 (Jan-Jul) against 69,916 MT in 2017 (Jan-Jul). In Jul’18, it was noticed that US imports recorded at 18,049 MT pig iron which was 29% of total pig iron export done by South Africa.
— Netherlands, the second largest Pig iron importer of South African Pig iron has imported 32,509 MT Pig iron in 2018 (Jan-Jul) against 41,005 MT in 2017 (Jan-Jul).
— Portugal, the third largest Pig iron exporter to South Africa has exported 16,006 MT in 2018 (Jan-Jul).
Market Updates
— In Jan-Jul’18, India remains the largest importer of ferrous scrap from South Africa with 128,506 MT. While, Pakistan & Bangladesh imported around 89,541 MT & 41,645 MT in the same period
— The global export offers of steel grade Pig Iron are assessed at USD 375-380/MT FoB Brazil & USD 380-390/MT FoB India.
— South African exports for the duration Jan-July’18 witnessed at 37.12 MnT , in line with last year same duration (Jan-July’17) at 37.22 MnT.
— South African RB2 (5500 NAR) coal offers are assessed at USD 78/MT on FoB basis & USD 92/MT CNF India.
