South Africa pig iron exports surge by around 10,000 MT (25%) M-o-M & Y-o-Y in November’17, according to the customs.
The nation has exported about 50,000 MT pig iron during November’17 against 40,000 MT in October’17. United States (20,000 MT) remains the largest importer in Nov’17, inline Turkey & South Korea imported around 10,000 MT each respectively.
Coming to total exports in CY17 (Jan-Nov) it has been registered at 450,000 MT, surge by 58% against 290,000 MT in the same period during 2016. On yearly calculation, the country exported around 310,000 MT in CY16 & at 430,000 MT in CY15.
Country-wise South African Pig iron exports
– USA, the largest importer of South African Pig iron has imported 130,000 MT Pig iron in 2017 (Jan-Nov) against 90,000 MT in 2016 (Jan-Nov). In Nov’17, the country exported 20,000 MT Pig iron against 10,000 MT Pig iron to USA in Nov’16.
– Netherlands, the second largest Pig iron importer of South African Pig iron has imported 60,000 MT Pig iron in 2017 (Jan-Nov) against 60,000 MT in 2016 (Jan-Nov). However in Nov’17 & Nov’16, the country pig iron exports to Netherlands remains nil.
– Italy, the third largest Pig iron exporter to South Africa has exported 50,000 MT in 2017 (Jan-Nov) against 40,000 MT in 2016 (Jan-Nov). No major exports done by the country in Nov’17 against 10,000 MT pig iron to Italy in Nov’16.
Market Updates
1. In Nov’17, Bangladesh emerged as the largest importer of ferrous scrap from South Africa. However, Pakistan imported more than double in the month against Oct’17.
2. The global export offers of steel grade Pig Iron are assessed at USD 350-360/MT FoB Brazil & USD 355-360/MT FoB India.
3. South African coal export has increased 4% M-o-M to 7.58 MnT in Nov’17 against 7.28 MnT in Oct’17. South African RB2 (5500 NAR) coal offers are assessed at USD 79/MT on FoB basis & USD 92/MT CNF India.
4. Presently, export offers of iron ore lumps, Fe 64% are at USD 72/MT Richard Bay, FoB South Africa.
