South Africa: Merafe’s ferrochrome production sinks by 30% in CY20

Merafe’s attributable ferrochrome production from the Glencore Merafe Chrome Venture in CY 20 decreased by 30pc to 265,000 t from 371,000 t in CY19. Meanwhile, the production was down by 8% in Q4 CY20. The decrease is as a result of production cutbacks in response to COVID-19, bearish market conditions and electricity curtailments to a limited extent.
