South Africa: Merafe’s ferro chrome production drops y-o-y in H1CY’25

Merafe, South Africa’s leading ferro chrome producer, reported H1CY’25 output at 112,000 t from its joint venture with Glencore, down by 27% y-o-y from 154,000 t in H1CY’24. The production decline was mainly due to the suspension of operations at the company’s smelters, necessitated by ongoing adverse market conditions, which impacted the viability of production.
