South Africa: Merafe’s ferro chrome production drops 7% y-o-y in Q1CY’25

Merafe, South Africa’s leading ferro chrome producer, reported Q1CY’25 output at 71,000 t from its joint venture with Glencore, down by 7% y-o-y from 77,000 t in Q1CY’24. This was likely due to China’s rising production capacity and weak global market. However, output rose slightly by 1% q-o-q from 70,000 t in Q4CY’24.
