Merafe has decided to suspend operations at its Boshoek and Wonderkop smelters following a review of its chrome pooling and sharing venture (PSV) with Glencore. Boshoek will shut down from 1 May’25, and Wonderkop from 31 May’25. This decision is likely due to rising electricity prices and growing competition from lower-cost Chinese ferro chrome, which is dampening global demand.
