South Africa: Glencore’s ferro chrome output declines by 28% y-o-y in H1CY’25

Glencore, a leading South African ferro chrome producer, posted a 28% drop in output to 433,000 t in H1CY’25, from 599,000 t in H1CY’24. Production also declined by 43% to 156,000 t in Q2CY’25, from 277,000 t in Q1CY’25. The drop was driven by the suspension of Boshoek and Wonderkop smelters in May-Jun’25 due to weak margins. The Lion smelter was also temporarily offline for scheduled maintenance and rebuilds.
