South Africa: Ferro Chrome exports surge by 45% y-o-y in H1 CY’21

Ferrochrome export volumes from South Africa moved up by 45.4% to 2.19 mnt y-o-y in H1 CY’21 compared to 1.50 mnt in H1 CY’20, according to customs data maintained by SteelMint. However, China’s imports from South Africa fell by 33% m-o-m in Jun’21 due to the increased production of ferro chrome in the southern provinces. Total exports by China stood at 668,532 t in H1 CY’21- up by around 12% y-o-y from 588,226 t in the corresponding period last year.
