Eskom, South Africa’s state-owned electric utility, has applied for a price hike of 20.5%, starting April 2022. Meanwhile, Eskom wants an increase of 15.07% in 2023-2024 and a further 10% in 2024-2025. South Africa’s National Energy Regulator plans to make the announcement by 22 Feb’22. In the coming years, many ferro chrome smelters may have to suspend operations as production costs are likely to become difficult to bear.
