As per customs data, South African chrome ore exports have been surging gradually since Jan’21. Exports stood at 1.47 mn t in Apr’21 – up 20% m-o-m. Firm demand for ferrochrome along with increasing stainless steel production worldwide has resulted in an increase in exports from South Africa. South Africa’s share in total global chrome ore production is nearly 60%.
