According to preliminary custom data, South Africa Chrome Ore export witnessed a substantial increase of 45% to 0.89 MnT in Mar’17 as compared to the previous month. In Feb’17, South African Chrome Ore exports stood at 0.62 MnT.
Moreover, there has also been an increase in South African Chrome Ore exports by 22% Y-o-Y in FY17 against FY16. However, on quarterly basis, exports have witnessed a substantial fall of 20% in Q4FY17 against Q3FY17.
It has also been seen that Richards Bay is the primary port for exporting Chrome Ore followed by Komatipoort and Durban.
Chinese Chrome Ore Imports
China stands out to be the largest importer of South African Chrome ore which imported 0.5 MnT in Mar’17 followed by Mozambique, Turkey and Argentina.
However, on quarterly basis, there has been a fall of 32% in Q4FY17 in the Chrome Ore imports by China whereas, in same period, imports by Mozambique is up by 8% Q-o-Q.
