Sluggish Demand Persists in Indian Anthracite Coal Market

Weak demand for Anthracite coal continued to persist in India.

Demand has reached the lowest in the country as end-users have shifted their preference towards cheaper alternate fuels available abundantly.

According to a prominent importer, Anthracite coal offers are unchanged at USD 89-91/MT, CFR India.

Prices of Pet coke and other forms of coal have become significantly cheaper both in domestic as well as international markets for the end-users to have any reason to opt for Anthracite coal.

A trader in conversation with CoalMint said that demand was sluggish as end-users opted for alternate fuels.

During Feb’16, only one import consignment has landed. The consignment, of 33,000MT, was imported from Russia by Essar.
