The investigation by the European Commission is moving at fast pace and a decision is expected soon on the imposition of ‘Anti-dumping Duty’ on Indian Silico manganese. Members from the commission will meet the target companies from beginning May.
The European Union had initiated an anti-dumping proceeding concerning import of Silico manganese originating in India. The commission received a complaint in Nov’14. The companies in EU complained that Silico manganese from India is being dumped and thereby causing material injury to the union industry. The EC had invited companies and other stakeholders from the Indian side to participate in the investigations.
Silico manganese anti-dumping investigations are currently under way and the dumping margin estimated by the EU industry is 12-15%. A team from Europe is coming to India next month (beginning May) for verification of data. A provisional recommendation on the case is expected by 15Jul’15, which will be valid for 6 months.

Europe accounts to about 25% of India’s Silico manganese exports. Hence, it could have a huge impact on the fortunes of the Silico manganese industry in India as the industry is already plagued by the persistent problem of output overcapacity in the country.
