Sesa Goa, the largest low phosphorus Foundry grade Pig iron producer in India (0.625 MnT pa installed capacity), has posted a 97% increase in production for H1 FY14 (April-September) as compared to H1 FY13.
Owing to commissioning of new capacities in Q2 FY13, Pig iron production quantity has gone up since then.
A total quantity of 238,000 MT Pig iron was produced by the company in the first six months of FY14 in comparison to 121,000 MT in the similar period last year.
In Q2 FY14 (July-September), it manufactured 129,00 MT of Pig iron, witnessing a rise of 59% as compared to Q2 FY13 (82,000 MT) and an increase of 17% as compared to Q1 FY14 (110,000 MT).
Pig Iron Exports Rise 34% Q-o-Q in Q2 FY14
In FY14, the company explored export possibilities because of falling Steel grade prices and increase in domestic supply, impacted sales in Foundry grade Pig iron.
It shipped a total quantity (includes basic and foundry grade) of 118,642 MT Pig iron in H1 FY14; 68,009 MT in Q1 FY14 (up 34% Q-o-Q) and 50,633 MT in Q1 FY14 respectively.
The unloading ports were Taichung, Taipei and Yantai in China, Dammam in Saudi Arabia, Colombo in Sri Lanka, Qasim International in Pakistan and Belawan in Indonesia.

Production of key Pig Iron making Raw Material Increased
The company's Met Coke production also went up by 6% to 88,000 MT in Q2 FY14 in comparison to Q2 FY 13 (83,000 MT) and increased by 4% as compared to in Q1 FY14 (85,000 MT).
In H1 FY14, Met Coke output went up by 18% to 173,000 MT in comparison to 146 MT in H1 FY13.
Iron Ore Operations continued to be Suspended
Sesa Goa's Iron ore operations in Karnataka and Goa continued to be suspended in H1 FY14.
It procured 100% Iron ore lumps from Karnataka's e-auction and also imported Coke to run its PIP (Pig iron plant).
