SECL Coal Production

SECL’s Khairah Mine gets Environment Clearance for Enhancement of Coal Production

South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL), the largest coal producing subsidiary of CIL has received environmental nod to increase coal production at its Khairah underground project.

In India, where coal is a predominant source for power production. SECL has always striven to meet its coal production target each year, contributing significantly to the rising National energy requirements.

The quantity of coal that could be produced from any mine during any financial year depends on the statutory clearance from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. The total annual coal production thus depends on the Environmental clearance for SECL mines.

In this pretext, Khairaha Underground mine of Sohagpur area, SECL, was accorded sanction for enhancement of coal production capacity from 0.585 MTPA to 0.819 MTPA by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC).

It would be pertinent to mention that in the month of October 2018, Kahiraha UG mine had produced 75,175 MT of coal through Continuous Miner. This is the largest coal ever produced by any Continuous Miner in a single month in India. It is such efforts that have made SECL the largest coal producing subsidiary of Coal India Limited.

The increased capacity will contribute to the coal production targets of SECL.

During the first nine months of FY19 (Apr’18-Dec’18), SECL has produced 110.75 MnT coal, registering a growth of 8.9% Y-o-Y from 101.71 MnT recorded in the corresponding 9-month period of FY18.
