SECL receives green nod for Ambika project

South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), largest coal-producing company of CIL, has been granted environmental clearance for Ambika opencast mine by the State Level Environmental Combat Assessment Authority, Chhattisgarh.

The mine located in Korba district received permission for normative coal production of 10 mn t in an area of about 134 hectares, with its peak rated capacity earmarked at 1.35 mn t pa.

Moreover, the company has also planned to expand its production capacity by procuring clearance for project reports. In FY ’21, project reports of 4 big coal mines have been finalized which is expected to enhance its production volume by around 60 mn t annually.

To carry out development of these projects, capital outlay of around INR 10,000 Crore has been sanctioned. It is pertinent to note that the company had achieved its capital expenditure target of INR 2700 Crore in FY ’21.

On the production front, the coal company has been accorded with a reduced target of 160 mn t for FY ’22, in view of the surplus inventory accumulated at the end of previous fiscal.
