Imported scrap traded to SE Asian markets improved this week, while strong demand from the region pushed the prices up, at a time when globally, scrap availability and supply is already tight.
Vietnam – Imported scrap prices to Vietnam continued to rise for yet another week, due to both improved demand from buyers, as well as Japanese suppliers continuing to push export offers up, which are now supported by rise in Japanese scrap prices as well.
Japanese H2 scrap in bulk was booked by South Vietnam mills at USD 255-256/MT CFR Vietnam and fresh offers to South Vietnam were around USD 260/MT CFR. While offers to North Vietnam mills were USD 265/MT CFR and above. Although, trades at USD 260/MT and above levels are yet to conclude.
Offers for Japanese origin Shredded were offered at around USD 283/MT CFR Vietnam. Higher grade HS scrap offers stood in the range of USD 285-288/MT CFR while Shin Dachi scrap offers were reported between USD 290-295/MT CFR, depending on port of arrival. Among nearby origins, a deal of Hong Kong origin HMS 50:50 was reported at around USD 253/MT CFR.
USA origin offers too witnessed an upward movement, with HMS 1&2 (80:20) bulk offers standing at around USD 263-264/MT CFR Vietnam, while a recent sale at USD 260/MT CFR was recorded.
Indonesia – A booking of Australian origin HMS 1&2 (80:20) was reported a few days ago at a price of USD 245/MT CFR Jakarta. Fresh offers for HMS (80:20) has risen to USD 246-250/MT level now.
P&S offers in 20 ft containers were witnessed at around USD 263-265/MT CFR Jakarta, while 40 ft container offers stood at around USD 256-257/MT CFR. Bushelling scrap offers have climbed up to USD 270-272/MT CFR Jakarta, while a few offers of Tin Plate at USD 255/MT CFR Jakarta were observed.
Thailand – Central American origin HMS 1&2 (80:20) offers stood in the region of USD 245-248/MT CFR Thailand, up by USD 15/MT W-o-W. However, the prevailing bids are at around USD 236-237/MT CFR levels.
