It is reported that
South Korea imported 5.168 million MT of scraps in the first half of this year,
down by 22.3% from the same period in 2011.
Japan became the
top exporter with 2.385 million MT of scraps, increasing by around 67%. US claimed
the 2nd position with around 1.5 million MT, down by 4.5% while Russia
was the third largest one with 382,000 MT, up by 0.8% Y-o-Y.
Further, South
Korea's scrap imports totaled 878,000 MT, up by 13.2% from the same period last
year and falling by 5.5% from May 2012.
In addition, ferrous
scrap imports to Turkey from Georgia, falling by 66.4% Y-o-Y with 57,492 MT in
the first half of this year. Meanwhile, the country's average export price for
ferrous scrap to Turkey in the period in question stood at $368/MT, up slightly
from $367/MT in the corresponding period of 2011.
